Comorbidity is common with social anxiety disorder. Patients with SP have an increased risk of developing other psychiatric disorders. They are 4 times more likely to develop comorbid major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or panic disorder. They are up to 3 times as likely to develop comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). And they are at least twice as likely to develop comorbid alcohol or drug dependence.
