Why social phobia is important disease?

Despite its high prevalence, SP is often underreported, under-recognized, and under-treated. Diagnosing social phobia can be challenging: common symptoms appear across the spectrum of anxiety disorders, which can make diagnosis difficult.

Patients present with a wide range of symptoms. SP is associated with psychologic symptoms and physiologic reactions. Psychologic symptoms may include anxiety, fear, embarrassment, distress, and avoidance. Physiologic reactions may present as blushing, sweating, or tremor. Patients may also report palpitations or gastrointestinal discomfort. Anxiety experienced by patients with SP may also lead to speech block.
